Electic, Original Accessories at Estethica

Estethica, London Fashion Week's eco fashion exhibition sponsored by Monsoon is also home to several talented accessory designers. This season witnesses a bold mix, ranging from the highly wearable to the eccentric. We pick our 7 favourite pieces with plenty of 'wow' factor.

Makepiece, the chic to sheep label definitely comes under the banner of 'highly wearable', and while we've long coveted their dress and shrug designs, we were instantly drawn to their cosy gauntlets. Hands up all of you who have struggled to type as your fingers have frozen solid these past winter months?! We've tried, but typing in gloves is a feat we've yet to pull off. How we wish we'd been able to get our mitts into these stylish gauntlets, whose extended cuff rises up over the forearm (perfect to fend off the wind chill while out and about) and rises up over your palm, but leaving your finger tips free to do all those things gloves simply don't permit.

With Makepiece extending its design talents to accessories, it looks like we're in for a treat as the colder months approach again later in the year (yes, something we'd like to forget too!), but at least we'll be able to wear something stylish with these gauntlets boasting a cute original ruffle, and are also oh so warm with its British farmed wool. Visit Makepiece to view their current gorgeous dress and accessories collection.

A unique art and design collaboration between upcycled accessory label, Elvis & Kresse and Arts Co, is a match well worth your attention. Creating luxury from waste, a bunch of talented international artists - Lothar Gotz, Olivier Millagou, Paul Morrison and Simon Periton - blend their art with the re-engineering of waste, Elvis & Kresse are known for. The result is a colourful array of bags, from messengers to clutches, that bear the artistic talents of Arts Co, with the imaginative re-working of waste into luxury accessories. Our favourite? The 'Ludwig' Bowling Bag inspired by Lothar Götz. This treasure is made from decommissioned red, yellow and exceptionally rare blue fire-hose, the key waste material Elvis & Kresse work with, with Lothar's design talent showing through in the contrasting turquoise and pink thread, and turquoise zip. With the splash of utra rare blue hose, this will be firmly on the wish list of many style individualists - and be yours if you pre-order now. Visit Elvis & Kresse Arts for more information.

Considering our Editor was wearing a Fair Trade Pachacuti red felt hat at Estethica, we hot footed it over to their exhibition to see what else we should be coveting. While our eyes were immediately drawn to their stunning line up of hats, our attention was quickly diverted to their baby alpaca wool hooded shawls. Super soft and ultra fashionable, this shawl hoods over your head with its long shawl scarf draped below. We can't wait to wear this Fair Trade Certified shawl next year, and we bet you may want to join us. To learn more about Pachacuti, the first company in the world to be Fair Trade Certified by the World Fair Trade Organisation, i.e. their whole supply chain is vetted, we highly recommend a visit to Pachacuti's brand new glossy website.

We've long known about KAYU's amazing story, but to meet Jamie Lim, the American-based brainchild behind this charitable eco friendly eyewear brand was indeed a pleasure. Jamie not only designs and handcrafts sustainable eyewear from bamboo, KAYU also fund one sight-restoring surgery operation in the developing world for each pair sold. Like Pachacuti featured above, this type of brand not only supports craftsmanship, they also look after the physical health of people less fortunate, extending the feel good factor a purchase can bring. KAYU now boasts five eyewear styles, each named after a South China Sea tropical island. To make a difference and learn more, please visit KAYU.

Minna, based and produced in London, not only designs covetable upcycled and sustainable clothing, it also designs a delightful range of upcycled accessories. This season, Minna has introduced cast off leather and upcycled it into an incredibly eye catching range of necklaces. Without a doubt, their Bird Necklace will catch your attention for its originality and is firmly on our wishlist for next season. Visit Minna to view their current collections.

There's so much to rave about Oria Jewellery - where to start?! Let's see... Oria's ethically sourced and ecologically sound jewellery is contemporary, its pieces are accessibly priced to tempt jewellery lovers with all sorts of budgets and is rare in that they are one of the few jewellers to still handcraft their own pieces in their London studio, rather than outsource. It was soooo hard to pick just one piece for our top 7, but in the end we couldn't resist their Wolf Necklace. That's because it's adorably cool, unique and to add to the feel good factor, 10% of profits go to IUCN's Red List - so Oria is charitable too! While our photograph below doesn't give enough credit, up close the smooth detail on this wolf necklace is amazing - a divine piece to treasure for years. Visit Oria Jewellery for more information.

As we mentioned at the outset of this Estethica post, some of our favourites are eccentric - so Lu Flux's new collaboration with Green Shoes made it easily into our top 7 accessories. Our favourite pair of shoes are for men, with the flowers having been made from salvaged leather. To learn more about Lu Flux and her up and coming upcycled fashion label (Lu's core design activities are cool clothes for men and women), visit Lu Flux.
